SCROLL
// WHERE IT STARTED
Dee Biggers, civil engineer and founder of SQUARED

Houston to Afghanistan to Big Bend.

Dee Biggers grew up in inner-city Houston — the oldest of four siblings, in a household that demanded leadership before he was grown. He earned a full scholarship to Prairie View A&M University, where he studied Civil Engineering.

Then came Afghanistan. During Operation Enduring Freedom, Dee served in an engineering role — and lived in a converted shipping container. That container changed everything.

He returned to Houston. Invested in real estate. Built a corporate housing company. And in 2023, broke ground on OPENSPACE — a 20-acre off-grid glamping retreat near Big Bend National Park.

“That container brought me back to my roots. Engineering isn't just about numbers. It's about solving real problems with limited resources.”

// WHY SQUARED

Everything starts with a square.

“When you grow up different, people sometimes call you a square. You don't fit in. You don't move like the rest.”

But as an engineer, the square is where everything begins. It's a symbol of clarity, structure, and design. “A square can hold water. A square can mark a room. A square becomes the place where people gather — the living room, the town square, the open space.”

In a world that overcomplicates everything, SQUARED simplifies. “That's what SQUARED is. That's what this bucket is. This is my square.”

// THE MISSION

Dignity through design.

Affordable homes often looked cheap — and that never made sense. Why should dignity be reserved for people who can afford it?
